Boiler “The Steam Generator”

What is a Boiler?

A boiler is an enclosed vessel that provides a space for heat of exothermic reaction of fuel burning ,to be transferred into water until it becomes heated water or steam.
As a human being eats food, It gets churned and broken into small particles in presence of various acids, and the nutrients of it get transferred to the blood in the stomach. Similarly, fuel is fed into the boiler continuously, which burns in present of heat and oxygen and the large heat produced gets transferred to the water surrounding the boiler. Even that espresso machine at your treasured cafe is technically a boiler 🙂

“Her anger was the fuel she used to keep going.” -Stewart O’Nan

In a boiler, we need coal.

The hot water or pressurized steam is then
used for transferring the heat for working on any process or heating .

Why water is used ?

“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water. W. H. Auden

Water is a useful, clean and cheap medium for
transferring heat to a process.

Power of steam –

“Steam will always rise to the occasion.” – T Hincks

When water is converted into steam, its volume increases about 1,600
times, producing a force like a dynamite. This causes the boiler to be
extremely dangerous equipment that must be treated with utmost care.

“Living on steam isn’t easy” – Jessica Fotunato

Living without electricity will be more difficult I guess….

Basic Concept of Power Generation

Thermal power stations produce electricity by burning fuel, which is coal, in a boiler (assume a furnace, I will explain the technical terms later ) to heat water to produce steam. The steam, at tremendous pressure, flows into a turbine, which spins a generator to produce electricity. The steam is cooled, condensed back into water, and returned to the boiler to start the process again.
